RE: September Colorado or Black Hills SD snow chances?

Chance of "BIG" snow storm? One that lasts more tan a day or stays on the roads more than a few hours? very small but could/has happened in your time period. A year or so ago we had 8 inches in our yard in suburban Denver the first week of Otober. All melted by noon the next day!
I say - go for it. It is the best time of year in the Colorado high country!

Since you say you enjoy back roads do the 92/133/82 route but allow lots of time. A gorgeous ride.

RE: Air Compressor

I have a 12 volt compressor from Sears (Craftsman) for about $30. Slow but it does the job of topping off the pressure. Also have a 12 volt - 10 ft.extension cord and seem to use that every time when I can't get parked next to the wheels.

RE: So How's The Carbon Tax Working For Ya'

Nail the tourists - there is no way we can get it back- unless our friends in BC who eventually will see some of it back are willing to subsidize our visit to them -- oh yeh!!

RE: 1st time Canadian snowbird

I15 southbound In November, especially late, can have snow storms that usually do not last more than a day.. Northern MT is usually predictable with Calgary/Lethbridge forecasts. Montana/Idaho border area is one of the potentially stormy area but again it usually does not last long. All the rest should be OK.
Northbound in March - early same as above, late March usually OK.
Reservations in Phoenix/Yuma areas before New years probably OK without. Jan-Mar. many parks fill up exccept for very short term. If you come in Nov. and shop around for a park where you might want to stay longer you should be OK.

RE: Water Shut Off

Turn off the pump whenever you leave for any length of time - and, if on park water supply, turn off the faucet at the hose connection.

RE: Bed tax on my bed?

Like baseball? All the areas - county/cities that host Cactus league spring training teams in AZ have such a 'bed tax' by various names. It is dedicated to building/supporting all the baseball stadiums and to nail the visirors.Tucson started it# when they built the new facility for the White Sox and Diamondbacks and will (hopefully) upgrade the Rockies home field. That tax is over and above the entertainment tax that is added to every ticket to the games.
You want services/facilities - you pay for them - simple as that.

RE: Yellowstone to Albuquerque

Hi trlboy. We are a bit shorter than you but we pulled our 32 ft fiver thro Yellowstone the way you are proposing. Other than traffic - no problems. late Sept. traffic should be better anyway.
Are you up for a scenic route - other than interstates?
Try this - at Moran take 26/287 to Rawlins, east on I80 to exit 235 and south on WY 130 trhough Saratoga to Riverside. Then 230 which becomes CO 125. At Walden go west on 14 to meet CO 9 then south to Kremmling and continue south on 9 to I 70 at Silverthorne. Go west to Copper Mountain and take 191 to Leadville ( Fremont Pass ois one of the easiest pulls in the COlorado Rockies). south from Leadville on 24 until it merges with 285. Stay on 285 over Poncha Pass (another easy one) to CO 17 and 17 to Alamosa where it merges again with 285 (you can stay on 285 to Monte Vista then back east to Alamosa) south from Alamosa on 285 all thu way into New Mexico and Santa Fe. Then I 25 into Albuquerque.
Yes - we have pulled all of this route more than once with no problems. All are good 2 lane roads with much less traffic than the boring Interstates I 80 and I25.
Enjoy the trip and the balloons. Then where?

RE: 5er For the long haul

Our 2005 Crossroads Cruiser has, since April of 2005, over 70,000 miles (over 420 nights) and no issues so far. I would guess that would be called 'over-the-road type use. Absolutely satisfied with the comfort and performance.

RE: First long trip - SF to Jasper

Boy - it seems some folks just don't want you to do that!! sI say - go! but be prepared for a short storm any time ( it snowed in CO high country Friday!!) Your rig should handle it. if it does snow - stay plut for a day - or even an hour or two!. Bend to Couer d'Alene is fairly boring. From ther go nortah on 95 to Cranbrook BC and on to Radium. Two choices there - both good. 1: keep north to Golden then E. on Trans Canada to lake Louise. Use that cg as a base for a day or two and explore the Icefields Parkway to at least the Icefields or even to Jasper. That can be made round trip in a long day. Stop at Bow lke - Num Ti Jah Lodge for a bit of history and coffee, also stop at the top of Bow Summit and take the short walk to the Peyto Lake overlook. Lots of othe great views along the parkway. still from L. Louise - ride the chairlift!; a day in to explore the town of banff and surroundings - Lake Minewanka loop etc. Take 1A rather than the TCH. Ready to head south? back to the castle Mtn. junction then south on 93 back into BC. top to explore marble Canyon, then numa Falls and the Kootenay valley overlook on Sinclair Pass and back to Radium and south to Cranbrook. East on 3 to elko and south into MT and head for Glacier and onward.
Choice 2 (at Radium) turn NE on 93 ovr to the Kootenay Valley in Kootenay N.P. and continue to Castle Mtn. jct with istops at Numa Falls and marble Canyon (and others as you see wonderous scenery!). At the junction take 1A west to Lake Louise for a few days exploring (as above). make sure you go over to Yoho NP to see Emerald Lake and Takkakaw Falls. After touring ( as above) ready to head soguth? Take the TCH east to Cochrane, south on 22 to Pincher Creek and south to Waterton NP.After exploring Waterton go south into Glacier to St. mary and explore that Park. Then you are free to headhome!!
Enjoy, John
PS - My choice would always be #2! PM me for any questions.

RE: Oregon - I5 and 101 - using 126 to connect the 2

Driveby - with limited time?? your plan is OK but as the biker said the OR coast (101) is best from north to south ( we have spent a lot of vacatons on that coast). Have you done the Oympic Peninsula? PM me for more suggestions if you like.

RE: trip planning

Most of the time we only plan 1/2 day ahead. That is - sometime after lunch we estimate where we might want to stop. Look that place up in TL Directory and call ahead to ensure they will have space. Reservations mean we HAVE TO BE THERE and that, most times, is a pain, except for those special areas in high tourist season.
For most of our travels, after 17 years of Rving, the TRIP is more inter esting than the destination.
